Wonsik Chae’s light-up teabags
Imagine being able to light up your room with only a cup of tea? Sounds daft, doesn’t it? But designer Wonsik Chae has created the ultimate teabag – one that glows as it is put into water.
Wonsik Chae, from South Korea, explains how the ‘Lighting Bag’ works:
Consisting of a cup filled with a chemical intermediate, and a bag containing fluorescent molecules the light works through a catalyst of this chemical reaction.
From the pictures I found online it seems the tea brewed from these teabags is safe to drink. I love these!
Unfortunately the Yanko post about the Lighting Bag is a few years old and I can’t find out if these teabags are available to buy. If anyone knows more, let me know.

Thanks to @IHeartKenyanTea for alerting me to this amazing use of teabags, after tweeting about it:
